London Family Home Renovated And Extended By Neil Dusheiko Architects
Located in London, UK, this modern family home was renovated in 2013 when it also got an extension. It was a project by Neil Dusheiko Architects. The existing house was in bad shape and it was in bad need of reparation. However, it was salvageable. Its new owner decided to give it a complete renovation and another request was for a contemporary rear extension so the house could accommodate a family of five.
Lots of considerable changes were made. The ground floor was completely opened up and it became a single open plan which includes the living room, the kitchen and the dining room.
The kitchen is in the center of the volume. The ceiling and floor levels vary throughout. To bring more light inside the house and to allow it to get in all the corners, large skylights were installed in the kitchen and dining area. They also bring another advantage. The skylights also create a very open feel and the impression of being outdoors.
The materials used throughout further emphasize the strong connection with the outdoors. The residence has polished concrete floors which also continue outdoors in the garden ad retractable glass doors separate the two environments. The whole house was insulated and the existing brick was covered with insulated render.
